I know the biggest question you're asking yourself is if this is actually really hand-carved wood and worth the money. Hands down this is the coolest gift I've ever bought for someone and the quality, craftsmanship, and mechanics are amazing. I'd also like to add that I was worried about it getting damaged in shipping but the Mariner Poet has made that impossible by using high density foam cut to house your automaton securely and safely to its destination.

I bought 3 Manta Ray in memory of our first family vacation in Hawaii where we swam with the Manta Rays. One is for my desk, two are for the kids for Christmas. I opened each of the boxes to check to make sure they were in good condition since they were shipped over seas. I love the card that came with it, hand written note I asked for, and it was well packaged. All three looked great, but one I couldn't plug the charger in, because naturally wood expands and there must not had given enough space in between to allow for wood expansion. I reached out to Jason to let him know and he was able to replace it immediately. I love the Manta Ray, it is beautifully handcrafted, love how it glides so smoothly. It is mesmerizing to watch! My kids are going to love theirs so much!

Incredible craftsmanship. I bought one for my mum and it floats proudly on her windowsill. We may have overused it though as it has developed a squeak.
I seem to remember there was a “gears exposed” option which I should have taken.
I’m not an engineer or craftsman myself but I’ll certainly be tinkering with it.

I recently purchased the wooden manta ray from Mariner Poet, and I have to say—this is an absolutely stunning piece. The craftsmanship, the design, and the overall aesthetic are simply beautiful. It’s one of those rare items that immediately stands out as something special and thoughtfully made.
That said, I didn’t actually buy it for myself—I bought it as a birthday gift. The video I attached to my review is therefore only provisional. It shows my own first impression and how I presented it to my family beforehand, but it doesn’t fully capture the real experience of the person who received it.
The gift was for a 36th birthday—so definitely not a “child” anymore—and it was given during a birthday party. And what can I say? It was an absolute highlight of the evening. Almost everyone at the party was fascinated by this manta ray. People kept asking me where I got it, commenting on how unique and elegant it looked, and clearly appreciating the originality of the gift.

just because the price is very high and unfortunately the manta ray I got is not nearly as dark as the ones in the ad. This was disappointing and it bothers me enough I will probably stain the wood myself so it’s darker.

BEYOND EXPECTATIONS! Not only is this the most beautiful piece to have in our home, but dealing with the Mariner Poet has been as smooth and elegant as our new manta ray!
